Our Approach to Anxiety Treatment
We have found that there are many different approaches that can be helpful with anxiety. One is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT. In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, you learn to recognize thoughts that start the anxiety chain. Then, you will work with your therapist on you gaining an understanding of how these thoughts are impacting you and how we can begin to change those thought patterns. Many of these thought patterns are just not true and realizing that offers relief and freedom.
We will also work with you to discuss things in the past that have helped you before with anxiety. It might be meditation, or not. It might be taking a walk outside, finding a moment for yourself, or talking to a friend. You might feel like you have tried everything. But, when we are able to have a thoughtful conversation with your therapist about what you’ve tried and found helpful or unhelpful, new ideas often arise.
We might also explore the different factors in your life that might be overwhelming you. Then, we will discuss how you respond to these stressors and ways to decrease your emotional response.
You deserve the help you need. No one should have to suffer from anxiety forever.

Types of Anxiety
General Anxiety
General anxiety is when you feel a constant and persistent worry or anxiousness about many different things. You might not be able to pinpoint exactly what triggered your anxiety and you find that you don’t worry about one specific thing. You feel like you are constantly scared or worrying about something or someone. Or, you find yourself constantly thinking about possible dangerous or disastrous scenarios. It feels like you worry about everything and can not find anything to help you feel calm.
Just the thought of trying to get through the day can cause anxious thoughts to enter your mind. People with General Anxiety don’t know how to stop the cycle of worry, even though they might have tried. Often, they feel like their anxiety prevents them from doing so many things in life and controls them.
Anxiety During Pregnancy
Anxiety often occurs during pregnancy. While you’re pregnant, there will be many tests, exams, and ultrasounds done to ensure the health and safety of your baby. Waiting for the results of these tests or coming to terms with possible unexpected outcomes from these exams can be devastating and anxiety-provoking. You may find yourself dealing with racing thoughts as you try to navigate the many “what ifs” of pregnancy. Or, you may be constantly worried about losing your baby or miscarrying. This worry can be crippling, taking away any joy or happiness that you might want to find in your pregnancy.
You might be anxious at the thought of giving birth and the many unanswered questions related to what birth will look like. Will I make it to term? Will I have to be induced? What about the pain and the needles? You are constantly thinking about whether you will be able to make it through labor. You worry that you might not be able to follow your birth plan. This sense of being out of control can be overwhelming and all-consuming as your due date arrives.
Postpartum Anxiety
Postpartum anxiety can manifest in many ways. It can look like the mom who finds herself unable to sleep even though she is exhausted. It might be the new mom who is constantly worrying about the health of her baby. Or, she might get up in the middle of the night multiple times to check if her baby is still breathing or have haunting thoughts of her baby being in danger.
Anxiety after having a new baby might feel like a constant state of unease. You might be constantly searching for some relief from the worry, the nervousness, and anxiousness. You might feel that your heart is racing, you can’t breathe, and you feel shaky. There is normal parenthood worry, which occurs for new parents as they welcome a new child, then there is anxiety that starts to take over your life and affects your sleep, appetite, and other areas of your functioning.
Anxiety in Motherhood and Being a Mom
As a mom, you might feel like you have to do it all. It might feel like you have so many areas of your brain functioning at once. You are thinking about what your children need for school, worrying about work deadlines, and navigating how to make time for self-care. Plus you want to find time to connect with your partner, decide what to eat for dinner, and do the chores. Your mind races and your brain never seems to slow down. You are mentally and physically exhausted. The anxiety of motherhood is starting to take a toll on your mental and physical health.
You might be feeling the pressure of having to “bounce back” from pregnancy, trying to return to the physical state your body was in prior to pregnancy and having children. Or, you wanted to breastfeed, but you were unable and feel guilty about formula feeding. Maybe, you’re anxious about the lack of sleep. Perhaps, you are concerned about how your relationship is being affected by having kids. You spend all your energy caring for your kids and feel disconnected from your partner.
Anxiety in Today’s Society
Our society, and the messages we receive from society, do not support a lifestyle that allows our nervous system to slow down. This may cause the continued activation of the nervous system, which leads to anxiety.
Perhaps, you feel like you have to do it all. You have to be able to manage family, work, and maybe even take care of your parents or your children. It can feel like too much.
However anxiety manifests in your life, know it doesn’t have to be this way. Anxiety is so common in today’s society that we often believe that it is normal or that there is no way to escape it. Maybe, you’ve been dealing with anxiety all your life, and you forgot what it is like to live without anxiety. You are not alone. There are steps you can take to help manage your anxiety and calm your nervous system so that you can begin the process of healing.
Common Questions about Anxiety Treatment
Will my insurance cover my anxiety treatment?
Unfortunately, we do not take insurance at this time. There are reasons why we don’t. One of those reasons has to do with confidentiality. Often insurance requires that you provide your medical notes and records. These records can go through many different hands at the insurance company. Another is, in order to be covered by insurance you have to receive a psychiatric diagnosis, which at times does not always fit the clients we are seeing.
We understand if you would like to go through your insurance and happy to connect you with other practitioners who do accept insurance.
Where do you offer anxiety therapy?
We offer online therapy for anxiety to individuals and couples residing in Florida. Our counseling office is physically located in Miami, South Florida. However, we are not offering in-person therapy at the moment for the safety of clients and our therapists.
I am not sure if therapy is right for me. How will I know if therapy is what I need?
We understand that the last thing you might want to do is have to deal with yet another appointment. You may associate therapy with severe mental illness, but you can function fine. Perhaps, you believe that you should be able to solve your own problems, and don’t need help.
No matter how you view therapy, what is important is that if you are struggling you deserve things to be different. You deserve to be happy, less stressed, and supported. Taking care of yourself is so important. It is not only important for you but for your child, your family, and your partner. When you take care of yourself, you’ll likely better, then you can be present with the people you love.
